The Latest Development In TV Technology - LEDs
TVs have come a long way since their first conception. With the old models you only got a picture if you sat square on to screen and squinted to make out people and objects. Since then we have had stereo sound, widescreen, plasma, LCD and whole host of other developments to quench our thirst for technology.
LED-backlit technology is the latest development to find its way into the digital entertainment market. LEDs are cropping up all over the place recently, in everything from car headlights to light-up crystal vases. They are popular because they are very reliable, create very true light and use a great deal less energy than other forms of lighting. The old florescent lights have been the standard for a good while and have been able to supply TVs with light through many developments and generations, but the time has come for something better.
An increase in demand for faster, slicker and more defined pictures, coupled with a desire for everything to be super slim, goes some way to explain why LED lighting found its way into TVs. People want their phones, stereos and even vases slim line these days, and TVs are no different. As the LED backlit TVs use a special diffusion panel to create an even spread of light across the screen, the lights can be around the edge of the TV and not behind the screen. This means that many models are only around an inch thick. Advanced colour gamut and improved dynamic screen contrast are other steps forwards.
Another benefit of the LED technology is that it is a lot more environmentally friendly. The modern lighting method uses around 75% less energy than the conventional fluorescent lighting. Further more, when it comes to disposing of them, there is a great deal less pollution. Additionally, LED-lit televisions are less prone to power-surge damage and even water damage. That said, its not advised that you start resting your wine glasses on top of them, just in case.
